Camperdown Ward is a 20 bed unit, located on level 2 of The Children's Hospital at Westmead. The Ward provides inpatient care for children with cancer.

Camperdown Ward provides a number of specialised services, including:

  • Administration of complex chemotherapy regimes, or combinations of chemotherapy and radiotherapy;
  • Antimicrobial and other supportive therapy for children who are immunosuppressed;
  • Stem cell transplantation and stem cell harvesting (apheresis);
  • Radioactive isolation for children receiving MIBG or other radioablative therapies.

Camperdown Ward aims to provide the best quality inpatient care for children receiving treatment for cancer. With a dedicated core staff of experienced paediatric nurses, medical staff, and allied health professionals, we aim to provide the most current and effective treatments for a wide range of malignant and non-malignant conditions. As well as quality care, we also aim for quality of life for our patients and their families.

Camperdown has a great team of staff, who care for our patients with great skill, dedication and compassion. We strive to maintain a working environment that is supportive for all staff.

Projects

The unit is currently engaged in the Teamwork, Learning, Change project which supports staff through action research with a view to improving patient care.

Education

Education and professional development is a high priority and Camperdown Ward offers a comprehensive and supportive orientation program for new employees and ongoing educational opportunities and support for all Camperdown Ward Nursing staff.

The Camperdown Ward Clinical Nurse Educator and Oncology Services Nurse Educator are actively involved in the support and provision of Nursing Education for all staff through regular inservice programs, specialist study days and conferences.

Rostering

Camperdown Ward offers 6, 8, 10 and 12 hour shifts. We use a request based rostering system and rostering guidelines are available. Where possible, every effort is made to accommodate individual preferences and requirements.
